If you are anything like us, you may be best acquainted with cork as a closure for wine, or possibly, that bulletin board you had when you were in grade school. That all changed for us in January, 2011 while on a wine tasting trip to Paso Robles, California. While sipping wine at a favorite winery, browsing through the gift selections, our founder noticed some purses made from a beautiful and intriguing material and was surprised the learn that it was cork!
Some call it cork leather (it looks and feels like traditional animal leather, but is much more interesting); some call it cork fabric (it has a fabric backing). But, whichever you call it, we think you’ll just call it fantastic! The more we learned about this unique material, the more we liked it. And, the more applications that we imagined.

We develop and manufacture Cortizza “exclusives” and we seek out the best from talented designers. We work with several manufacturers in Portugal and Spain, where the finest cork fabric is produced and attention to detail results in products you will love.

Cortizza is a bit of a stylized variation of the Portuguese word for cork, cortica. Almost all of the world’s cork oak forests are in Mediterranean countries, with about 33% of the entire world’s cork oaks in Portugal.
